the further development of the 3D-chess has made a big step forwards again
The designer of the 3D-chess, Waldemar Zöllmer, has managed to develop a completely new chess game device.
This unusual game device is played on 8 real levels.
Zöllmer 3D-chess is built up very compact, clearly arranged and to the highest extent transparent.
By moving the base field elements horizontally, it is very good playable.
It is very simply possible to move the pieces from one point to an other position.
This happens because the pieces are getting hanged on rings which are attached to nylon threads.
The new 3D-rules of the game are almost identical with the known rules of the 2D-chess game. These rules had of course, to be adapted because of the spatial field.
Zöllmer 3D-chess is regarded as an absolute world novelty and was already introduced to the public at the
SÜDDEUTSCHEN SPIELEMESSE (HOBBY & ELEKTRONIK)
in Stuttgart for the first time at the end of October 2005.
There also was a numerous crowd of ambitious chess players on the international fair-days SPIEL 06 in Essen in Oktober 2006.
All visitors of at the two fairs could test their 3D-chess knowledge under real terms. The interest of the chess professionals and all 3D-chess fans was as expected very big.
The game device which is new and kept in a noble black now was revised constructively and improved in some important details again. s. Fig.1 and 3 (deliverable since October 2006).

1. Equipment description, construction
The playable square on the 3D-chessboard is divided into four movable field elements which have gliding profiles at the side. The elements can therefore horizontally be moved, so that sufficient positions are available between the field elements, therefore the chess pieces can be moved easy.
The four field elements have two vertical profile-poles, each are connected horizontally to each other with twice of 8 nylon threads. Because of the tension, a connection bar is attached for the stabilization at every field element.
To mark all 512 fields of the 3D-chess in black and white, 266 black and 266 white rings are fastened at the threads.
The figures have integrated hooks at the top, which must be put in these rings.
As a rule, the measurements of the game are depending on the size of the chess pieces.
In the pictures shown here, the field base has a size of approx. 400 x 400 mm (the 4 field elements are not apart).
